 Statistical report on prisoners and detainees

Statistics concerning prisoners:

-         The total number of prisoners in Israeli jails is about 7500 Palestinian and Arab prisoners, distributed in more than 23 prisons, detention centers, and investigation Centers. Actually, they are living under very harsh conditions.

Date of arrests for the year 1967:

-         Total arrests that took place since the beginning of 1967 has exceeded (760) thousands Palestinians and Arabs, of whom approximately 13 thousands of females, and nearly 25 thousands children between the ages of 12 and 18 years.

-         Those arrests included all areas of the occupied Palestinian territories. These arrests were not confined to a particular class of the society but also included young people, children, females, and patient and elderly peoples, as well as members of the Legislative Council, and municipal and village councils.

Sentenced Prisoners:

-         There are 5273 of the total number of prisoners, who are sentenced for life-imprisonment terms in prisons.

Life terms prisoners:

-         There are 778 of the total number of prisoners are sentenced to life imprisonment for one-time or many times.

Detained prisoners:

-         There are 1472 prisoners, who are awaiting trial.

Administrative prisoners:

-         326 prisoners are held without trial or any charge. (Administrative detention)

-          Patrol prisoners:  

-         46 prisoners of patrol prisoners, whom detained by Israel at the international borders, and 209 are detained at investigation centers..

West Bank prisoners:

-  The number of prisoners from the West Bank is 6107.

Gaza Strip prisoners:

- The number of prisoners from the Gaza Strip is 739.

Prisoners of East Jerusalem:

- The number of prisoners from East Jerusalem is 212.

Palestinian prisoners inside the 48:

-  The number of prisoners of 1948 border is 183.

Martyrs Prisoners:

-         201 prisoners killed in Israeli prisons as a result of medical negligence, torture, or murder, and/or of severe beatings or use of live ammunition against them.

-         76 prisoners killed since late 2000, the year 2007 has witnessed the highest rate of death inside Israeli jails.

-         The latest death occurred inside the Israeli prisons was against the detained, Obeida Al-Qudsi, who died on 13/9/2009, knowingly that he was arrested on 24.8.2009, after being chased by Israeli occupation soldiers in Hebron. He was taken to an Israeli hospital and liquidated there.

Old prisoners

- 327 prisoners held since before the Oslo agreement. They are called old-prisoners of whom some are arrested for more than 15 years.  The (109)  prisoners, who have been held for more than twenty years.  They are now named deans of prisoners. There are (13) prisoners, who spent more than a quarter of a century to 32 years inside the Israeli occupation prisons.

Female Prisoners:

-  There are 34 females prisoners,  5 of them are sentenced for life-imprisonment term at Hasharon, Damon and Taqi Trtsea prisons, they are:

- Ahlam Al-Tamimi, 16 Life imprisonment plus6 years.

- Qahirah Saadi, three life terms plus 30 years.

- Amnah Mona, life sentence.

- Sana Shehadeh, three life terms plus 81 years.

- Doaa Jayousi, three life terms plus 32 years.

Children of prisoners:

-         There are 237 child prisoners

Sick prisoners:

-         There are 1500 sick cases of the prisoners
